The spectacular ‘Vinyl to Victory’ music competition held at Darcy’s Pub in Langford in March attracted 56 bands of which 16 bands were selected to compete. Our congratulations go out to ‘Teenage Violets’ who took home the $3,000 first prize money on the final night of the competition (March 29). Well done, guys!
The Teenage Violets worked hard for that win. Twenty-five percent (25%) of their score was based on fan engagement, that is, how many of their fans showed up to support them on the night of their show. How well they planned and prepared for their performance counted, too (10%). Of course, the major portion of their score went to the quality of their performance (65%), their stage presence, their ease while playing, and how well their set was constructed and able to work the audience’s mood.
The Victory to Vinyl finalists and additional prizes were awarded to:
- 1st Runner Up – ‘Davenport’ won $700
- 2nd Runner Up – ‘Chase Spencer Band’ won $300
- 3rd Runner Up – ‘Shepard’ won $150
Judges for the finale were Elli Hart (‘Dirty Mountain’), Jenny West (The Zone, 91.3FM), Christian Down (musician), Adam Barter (‘High Noon to Midnight’), Mike Campbell (‘Sweeet Action’), and Lo Waight (‘Lo Waight & The Rattlesnakes’).
Congratulations to all the competing bands for delivering such brilliant, energetic performances to enthusiastic crowds at Darcy’s Pub Westshore! And special thanks to Budweiser for sponsoring the competition.
