Drumming is great! I’ve spent most of my days drumming in the past 30+ years and I can honestly say, it’s been a blast! There’s something magical about drumming. I can’t really put it into words—although I’ve spent thousands of hours drumming. We do know that drum therapy has been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health. Also, research and studies have shown that drumming induces deep relaxation, lowers blood pressure, and reduces stress.
The reason rhythm is such a powerful tool is that it spreads through the entire brain and produces positive feelings that last long after the drumming experience is over. I’ve read recently that drumming produces a deeper self-awareness because as you drum, you are harmonizing your brain activity! The physical, rhythmic effort of drumming actually synchronizes the two cerebral hemispheres. Amazing, isn’t it?
Drumming is a universal language, too, because anybody can take part in the drumming. No words are required to have a memorable life experience together!
And did I mention the great benefit it gives to your concentration and coordination skills? And before I leave, did you know that drumming burns more calories in a half hour than cycling, hiking, and weight lifting in the same amount of time?
