Winter holidays can be relaxing; but if you or a loved one has a tendency towards anxiety or depression, can increase during this time of year.

You can imagine the impact on a family when a child has a strong fear of heights. It can mean that the family cannot visit with friends or relatives that live in bigger buildings, or that the family changes locations for holidays to avoid airplanes or hotels with many floors. Keeping a parent close by can ease a child’s fear, but that can result in difficulty when separating to attend school and other activities. The child begins to worry about not having a parent close by to help them manage that fear. As routines and plans change to limit the fearful experiences, the level of concern for the whole family can grow.

Many of us have heard stories about online bullying and how devastating that can be for young adults and their families. Did you know that 1 in 4 teens are victims of online bullying? And this is not the only risk associated with online activities. At PCFSA, we hear many stories. The following story is an all too common one.

PCFSA is dedicated to delivering vital services to the West Shore communities of Colwood, Langford and Sooke. 2018 marks our 50th year of community service with educational, counselling and creative programming maintained in collaboration with partner agencies across the CRD.

Our PCFSA programs provide counselling and support services to all persons within the community. Services are delivered based on individual need and circumstance. Our mission is to enhance the quality and dignity of life for individuals and families. By encouraging healthy patterns of living, the lives of youth and families are enriched as they acquire the skills they need to improve connections to family and build on community relationships.
