Royal Bay, Colwood’s master planned seaside village continues its growth into 2020 with two new additions to its GableCraft Homes community. The first units of both Compass townhomes and the third phase of singlefamily homes are now available.

The two- and three-bedroom Compass townhomes will add 58 units of open concept living to Royal Bay. All units feature lofty 9’ ceilings with bright, inviting windows—perfect for morning coffee, contemplation and glimpses out across the Salish Sea. Standard features include engineered stone kitchen countertops, a spacious bathtub with tile-surround, and your choice of curated, coastal-inspired interior colour schemes.

New year, new beginnings. If home ownership in the West Shore is on your mind, rent-to-own at Crossing at Belmont is a great first step!

While the two rental buildings are now 70% occupied, with 108 of the 156 units already rented, there is still a good selection of unit types still available for you to look at. You’ll be pleased to notice that all units include high-end features to provide you and your family with the kind of convenience and comfortable living experience you would expect to see in premium units.

One of the most common comments GableCraft Homes receives from Royal Bay residents is that they would love to have access to food and coffee services in their neighbourhood. The good news is that while planning and design of The Commons is underway, GableCraft is applying to the City of Colwood for approval of a temporary coffee and light fare establishment, outdoor seating and walk-up and drive-thru access, as well as a small food truck.

Working with Sequoia Coffee, a local partnership between 2% Jazz and Truffles Catering, GableCraft Homes hopes to have things in place in the New Year. It will be located on the southside of Latoria Boulevard at Ryder Hesjedal Way.

From the beginning, Crossing at Belmont set a new standard for rental living in the West Shore. This fall, Crossing at Belmont started welcoming its first tenants to their new homes. From comments received, tenants are super thrilled with their new condo accommodations. The combination of nearby family conveniences and modern finishes is what has impressed them the most.

You may have already heard that the West Shore’s only seaside master-planned community is currently underway on rezoning the land south of Latoria Boulevard for a future commercial village that would bring desired amenities to Royal Bay. Amenities like a grocery store, an elementary school and more park space! In the meantime, they are busy working on updates to Metchosin Road, installing a traffic light at Ryder Hesjedal Way and Latoria Boulevard, and a temporary brand new pop-up coffee shop that should open this fall.

In 2019, Maclean’s magazine gathered data on 415 communities across Canada to identify the best spots to live in Canada. They were looking for what they call “supercharged small towns”—communities with rural charm with close access to urban jobs. They defined a “community” as a town or city with its own mayor.

They selected and compared 415 communities using the following categories: wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities and culture.

And guess what? Three of our West Shore municipalities made the list as towns that are offering an attractive alternative to big-city living!

As we quickly approach the Opening Day for Westshore’s most exciting new multi-family rental development, Crossing at Belmont, we wanted to provide you with an update on the latest news. 60 percent of the units in the West building, which is the first to open, have already been leased.
