Describe the spirit and intention of your Group's cause

Soroptimist means “best for women” and that’s what we strive to be—an organization of women at our best helping other women to be their best in our local community and around the world. Soroptimist International of Victoria Westshore (SIVW) – is made up of a lively group of women of various ages, professions, and backgrounds. This diversity is often the creative ‘juice’ of the very interesting projects we undertake. We run a number of projects to support women and girls in our community:
  1. Anney’s Closet– a “free store” for ladies to acquire all the items they need to set up their home and gain a fresh start.
  2. Financial Education Awards– for women who are pursuing further educational and skills training.
  3. Imagining Possibilities Conference– a one-day conference for girls and young women aged 15-24 to gain mentorship and connections in the business and vocational community, attend workshops and breakout sessions, and gain inspiration.
  4. Stella’s Suppers– A twice-yearly social evening for shut-in seniors in our community that includes a 3-course meal and entertainment.
Directions:
We will use the funds towards our Stella’s Suppers program which provides the opportunity for shut-in seniors to gather for a delicious catered meal, entertainment, and connection.

How will this benefit your Group & the Community?

The seniors who attend Stella’s Suppers tell us how much they look forward to attending and we maximize the number we can serve every time. Our last event received publicity from CHEK’s Vital People program, so we expect future events to be more popular than ever. Winning this award would allow us to continue providing this very worthwhile program to seniors in the community and to expand it so that we can serve more seniors.
